Will that not darken the honey?ShunkyDavenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27329001.post-46709619691053061202011-03-15T21:21:54.397-04:002011-03-15T21:21:54.397-04:00Thanks for the extra details on the feeding, Linda...Thanks for the extra details on the feeding, Linda. He referenced a well-known Ga beekeeper, Bob Binnie, who feeds or at least has the goal of having each hive take 5 gallons of sugar syrup in the fall. I don't know what to make of this point to feed more and better, since most natural beekeepers (meaning chemical-free) are aiming for survivor bees who can maintain themselves rather than pumping them full of sugar syrup. This year my surviving hives in Atlanta were fed, however. I gave both Topsy and my BH hive "bee tea" from the end of October through November....so I'm speaking out of both sides of my mouth.Linda Thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08089537760868691562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27329001.post-70368486798614058522011-03-13T10:40:06.698-04:002011-03-13T10:40:06.698-04:00great post - succinctly presented the Superorganis...great post - succinctly presented the Superorganism concept. also curious about the point made of feeding more and better. The Starved Idiothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09687455585038744083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27329001.post-29129933218656698672011-03-10T14:26:14.125-05:002011-03-10T14:26:14.125-05:00This lends further credence to the idea of transit...This lends further credence to the idea of transitioning completely away from moveable frame hives in favor of horizontal top bars and something closer to the traditional Japanese hive (tiered top bar, Warré) with fixed combs.Deanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01471071618342612939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27329001.post-87592418012788568052011-03-10T12:51:38.770-05:002011-03-10T12:51:38.770-05:00Super interesting summary of what sounds like a re...Super interesting summary of what sounds like a really great talk!

I'd like to hear about the rationale behind "feeding more and better" in the context of the superorganism. Does feeding here refer to syrup and pollen patty feeding, or providing better, more diverse forage?Chelseanoreply@blogger.com
