I have two hives that didn't make it through the winter, but both have plenty of honey. Would it be safe to harvest that honey?
Thanks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27329001.post-38172350169292090922010-03-04T15:53:51.661-05:002010-03-04T15:53:51.661-05:00A friend started keeping bees this past summer. This past winter was a mild one in temp but long in days. But even with that I'm surprised that her hive died.
We use to start a hive with two supers and keep it at just the two for the first year, adding a super the next spring. She had gone to three supers in the first year, lots of space in there. Should she disenfect the hive?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27329001.post-49476254552990906692010-02-28T02:34:02.290-05:002010-02-28T02:34:02.290-05:00I've been following this blog for three years ...I've been following this blog for three years and I am so sorry to see Bermuda go.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27329001.post-36684601168889654972010-02-21T09:24:00.612-05:002010-02-21T09:24:00.612-05:00I am down 50% from this summer of 12 hives. They are out in the yard for the other hives to clean up in this nicer weather.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27329001.post-17986017174492557952010-02-20T12:22:07.539-05:002010-02-20T12:22:07.539-05:00aww :( sorry about the dead hiveaww :( sorry about the dead hive♥ Kathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14591559212770014981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27329001.post-21624668880825349832010-02-19T17:08:32.066-05:002010-02-19T17:08:32.066-05:00It's always sad too loose a colony. After talking to many experienced beekeepers and reading posts like this, I think like you that my queen may have died. Our winter has been brutal with much snow still on the ground but the sun was shining today and the bees in Ora seem to be thriving.Lynnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09613776576584120065noreply@blogger.com
