The Sad Story of the Death of a Queen

In repainting Destin to get ready for bee season, I took the hive apart. When I removed the frames from the medium brood chamber, I noticed lots of empty, opened queen cells. You can see two below and in the picture below that you can see a row of these cells. There were two frames each with five or six opened queen cells. I think this means that when the queen died, the bees made an effort to requeen themselves, but never succeeded. Without the queen, the rest of the bees, unable to create a new queen, starved to death. So sad........
