It Was a Rainy Night in Georgia

Finally - we had a rainy night in Georgia and actually waked up to a rainy day! I can't believe it. We've had so little rain that I've forgotten how the beeyard looks on a rainy day. I just had to post a picture because in this drought, this is a very unusual sight!

I'm thrilled for the rain, but the hives look a little forlorn. I'm so used to seeing the girls out and about, foraging, cleaning, zooming out of the hives.

    Linda,

Are you going to leave the supers with the bottom full deep, or eventually going to all mediums. Just curious, as I am trying to switch over to all mediums.

Your deck looks so inviting so nice and damp. I am sure the bees will be very happy.

  2. I am in the process of switching to all mediums. The two hives that have deeps in the bottom were both started from nucs this year and the nucs were deeps - so I put them both in deep boxes. All the new hives are in mediums - the small swarm and Proteus Bee are both in 8 frame mediums. Bermuda (the hive at the upper left) who barely made it through the winter is in all medium boxes.
