Weather Channel Bee Story

On Tuesday a crew from the Weather Channel came over to my house and filmed my beehives for a story they were doing about a video of an electron microscope view of the bee.  It was a lot of fun.

Dave Malkoff and Kevin, his camera guy, came over and took footage of me, opening a beehive.  I enjoyed both of them.  We even put a microphone right up in the entry of the hive so they could get the buzzing sound.  The bees didn't like it because the microphone blocked part of their entry, so they buzzed more than usual.

This photo came from a tweet by Dave Malkoff  [ TWITTER: @Malkoff ]  and was taken by Kevin Bond, his camera man.

You can see the video on YouTube.  Dave was inspired by this video to get interested in the hairy honey bee.

  1. I thought that was you. My husband is on vacation this week and he watches TWC all the time when he's home or I would have missed it. I just caught the last little bit but I heard Atlanta and knew it had to be you and your bees. It was really interesting.

Oh cool! I saw a link to that video this morning when I pulled up the 10 day forecast page, but I haven't watched it yet.

    Hi Linda,
I am very interested in becoming a beekeeper. I would really like to help the problems going on with bees dissapearing. The problem is, I know next to nothing about what this takes but am very eager to learn. Would you send me any helpful infomation, or do you know of anyone, or yourself, that wouldn't mind teaching me a few things about this? I believe I could do this in my yard, there's plenty of flowers, trees, gardens, water, surrouding me.

    Thank you Hollie, 404-772-4541

  5. Hi Hollie, The Metro Atlanta Beekeepers teach a short course - next year it's on January 18, 2014 at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. I'm co-chair of the course with Julia Mahood and we are both teaching in it as well. Please come. You'll learn all you need to know to get started. Of course, also if you'll start at the beginning of this blog, you'll learn a lot about getting started as well.
